4 out of 5 stars Good Stuff   July 19, 2010
Jman6631
I used this to cover the plywood base of my utility trailer recently. So far the stuff looks pretty darn tough, but time will tell of course. I'd give it a 5 but the application was tricky and not like anything I've ever applied before.

First, there is a sticker on the lid that says "do not shake, contents under pressure" (???) and there were two curious little metal clips holding the lid down to back that up. The first can I got was nearly impossible to open with a screwdriver or paint can opening tool. I had to resort to vice grips and partially mangle the lid and can. The second can opened easily.

Because of the pressure warning and the clips I made sure I read all of the super fine print instructions thoroughly, and because the product seemed so unusual already I didn't deviate. There was no mention of stirring so I didn't, and by the time I got to the end of the can the majority of the little rubber bits were packed on the bottom and I immediately realized my mistake. Stirring the second one thoroughly and often resolved that issue.

Work fast. After I poured some into my roller pan it was easily workable for a while, and then before I could use it up it started to set into a thick cottage cheese-like consistency. I had to scoop it out with the brush and smear it around and then work it really hard with the roller to spread it out. I eventually figured out that working in small areas and keeping the lid on the can between pours was key.

The next issue was clean up. This stuff is STICKY. Definitely wear nitrile gloves, and I'd recommend a long sleeve shirt and pants that you don't care about because if there's skin it will find it and getting it off is no easy matter (smears lasted a week or more and required several lestoil scrubbings to remove). If you roll it you can count on it flying off which is when most of it got stuck on me. You can also count on it pretty much ruining whatever you apply it with. Because of the overall mess I decided not to use solvent to clean my roller, brush and pan, I was just glad to be done.

Lastly is the odor. This is stuff is solvent-based and nothing to mess with. Wear a respirator and make sure you've got good ventilation, as in outside, you'll be glad you did.

Overall though it looks like a pretty good product and I'm glad I used it. Hopefully it will hold up. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars shower pan sealer!!!   October 23, 2009

As a last resort, I bought a quart of Herculiner and sealed my bathroom shower pan. After many years of trying to stop my shower from leaking with no success, I thought, if this products is water tight and skid resistant, why not try it in my shower. It went on very well, 3 coats, then a coat of primer and I painted the Herculiner with an enamel. Looks great and I now can use my shower again after 15 years of leaks and frustration. Just another use for Herculiner. I completely renovated my shower with some Herculiner and Rust-O-Leum enamel and primer. Looks like a new shower and no leaking of the shower pan and no more wet bathroom carpet.
